NovSpecial offer to December Holidays: nature reserve, Modernism culture and Mediterranean cuisine, Spain, Alicante
This district is home to two stunning natural parks: El Carrascal de la Font Roja , a haven of pine and seductive pathways, and the Sierra Mariola, which accommodates one of the largest forests of yew trees in Europe. The countryside is dotted with all manner of alluring features, from snow wells and paper mills to a record-holding reservoir, a valley dedicated to the magic of toy production and whitewashed villages like Penáguila and Benifallim, with brown tiled roof and proud, upstanding bell towers.
Vying with its picture-postcard landscapes is a cityscape of equal beauty: Alcoy. Tucked away among the mountains, the industrial city of Alcoy harbours great treasure in the form of iconic Modernism architecture, and is part of the Art Noveau European Route.
The Font Roja natural park straddles different ecosystems: some areas are covered in pine and kermes oak, others ins ash and yew, with ivy creeping in damp spots, and thyme or pebrella. Perfect to enjoy practicing hiking, adventure sports our nordic walking over its natural paths. (See more info)
Alcoy boasts two Modernista marvels, a legacy of the town´s economic heyday in the early 20th century. One is the Circulo Industrial building, whose facade and interior ooze Modernisme in every detail. Of similar beauty is La Casa del Pavo, once the studio of local 19th century painter, Fernando Cabrera. There are also several others signs of Modernisme around the city. Take a stroll and see what you can discover.
Officially recognized as being of international tourist interest, Alcoy´s Moors and Christians festival is held each April. For the rest of the year, there´s the local museum, where you can immerse yourself in the history of these time-honored popular celebrations. (See more info).
Also you mustn´t leave without sampling the local cuisine: the gazpacho (meat stew served on flatbread) in Castalla, the olleta de blat (stew with pumpkin), the pericana (dried red pepper and cod salad) and the peladilla (sweet almonds) of Alcoy… one of the iconic of traditional Mediterranean cuisine is the restaurant Masía la Mota , we offer a wide range of dishes based in the traditional cuisine of Alicante´s mountains.
