Charming Hotel and Restaurant Masia La Mota, Alcoy, Alicante, Spain
Twenty years ago we discovered this old country house called Masia La Mota in the middle of the natural parks Font Roja and Serra de Mariolar, surrounded by centenary olive trees and very close to the Costa Blanca.
We started restoration work on the building, which took more than 7 years. Initially we were looking for a house to make our home, but all our plans changed when we fell in love with a house of more than 2000 metres. Once we bought the property there was a need to share our house with guests in order to help in its maintenance and it was a way to share our house with guests.
The building had to be equipped with all the necessary infrastructure to provide quality accommodation and above all focused on the optimisation of energy and resources, then came the construction of the Masia La Mota Restaurant on the site of the old oil mill of the estate, where the stone, press, oven, decanters and utensils remained unused for more than 50 years. You can see all these pieces when visiting us or participating in some of our olive oil tourism days, a new way of enjoying the culture surrounding the olive grove and olive oil. A way of getting to know agricultural inland areas where the olive tree is the main crop.
From November onwards you can see the olive harvesting process.[/caption]
We lamented how neglected the estate was. So we bought a tractor and equipment to gradually plough and clear the land.
Once the work was finished, it did not take long to start intensively recovering the trees, the process has been very long, these trees required pruning, ploughing and in some cases fertilisation. From the beginning we were very clear that the compost we would use would be natural or organic. The acquisition of two donkeys and the production of compost would allow us to build this new dream.

Taking into account that the farm is composed of more than 500 centenary trees and 2000 new trees, we had to buy the fertiliser by the sack. We are using biofuerza, an ecological biofertiliser of organic origin, designed to achieve the integral nutrition of the rhizosphere. This type of fertiliser guarantees a biologically and ecologically successful productivity and above all it guarantees that it does not pollute the environment.
The pruning has been carried out by local people who know the importance of this delicate phase of tree recovery and then the maintenance of the trees.

Our first harvest is from 2017, from the beginning we have sought excellence in its production using mechanical means and cold extraction and only from our own olives that are produced at 800 metres above sea level in a privileged area because there is no contamination of any kind. The predominant species is the Alfafarenca, although among the olive groves there are some specimens of blanqueta, manzanilla, gordal and genovesa.
The new plantation is 100% alfafarenca because we have discovered its qualities that differentiate it from other species. It is a late-ripening spice, which is why we harvest it by hand, as has been done since ancient times in November and December.

Our Masia La Mota extra virgin olive oil can be defined as intense, aromatic, bitter green fruity with a characteristic spicy touch due to its great richness in polyphenols, which are the compounds that give the oil its antioxidant properties. With an oleic acid content of 80%, it is one of the most heart-healthy and anti-ageing oils.

We have recently obtained the plaque that grants us the Parc Natural de la Font Roja brand and we are in the process of obtaining the seal of Organic Production that would grant us the Organic Agriculture Committee of the Valencian Community CAECV.

The process takes about three years, so although our label cannot say ecological, we can assure you that we are taking all the necessary care to obtain it, which if all goes well should be in 2021.
