The Alcoy greenway from Masía La Mota

Masía La Mota is located in a privileged setting. In the heart of the Font Roja Natural Park, at its doorstep is also the Serra de Mariola, a large Natural Park that encompasses up to seven villages, surrounded by nature of unique beauty.
Not only does this hotel and restaurant enjoy a wonderful setting, but it also has direct access to the Vía Verde de Alcoy, one of the best known and most popular routes in the municipality, which links the Batoi neighbourhood with the town of Ibi and which starts in the Serra de Mariola and crosses the Font Roja.

If you stay at Masía La Mota, or eat in its restaurant, you can’t miss these routes that you can do from its own grounds, taking the Via Verde as the main route.

PONT DE LES SET LLUNES

When you take the path from Masía La Mota, you will quickly come across one of the most famous bridges on this Greenway: the Pont de les Set Llunes, a bridge that offers spectacular views at any time of the year.

Taking this bridge as a reference, we will first show you the nearest places that you can visit on a pleasant excursion.

RACÓ DE SANT BONAVENTURA

The Racó de Sant Bonaventura is one of the places not to be missed for a comfortable and pleasant excursion. “El Racó”, as it is sometimes abbreviated, is found by following a path that passes under the Pont de les Set Llunes. There you will find a spot bathed by the waters of the river Polop that will make this excursion a very pleasant time, where you can also have lunch thanks to its picnic area.

Very close to the Racó de Sant Bonaventura you’ll find the Font del Quinzet, another spot not to be missed if you’re in the area, which also has tables and benches for lunch.

ELS CANALONS

From the Racó de Sant Bonaventura, following the riverbed and crossing some wooden planks, we also reach the Canalons, a charming area where we find a large pool. It is not deep, but to cross it you will have to walk along the rocky wall that surrounds it, with the help of chains attached to it. It is a bit slippery so you have to hold on to the chains, but as we have said, the pool is not deep so if you slip the worst that can happen is that you get wet. Further on you will also find other stretches with pools, this time a little more complicated, but still with chains for you to cross. If you feel like continuing, simply follow the path that runs along the riverbed and will never cease to amaze you. It’s up to you to decide how far you want to go, but this beautiful place is definitely worth seeing and enjoying.

OTHER NEARBY SPOTS NOT TO BE MISSED

Linking up with the Greenway, you can access other places such as Castellar, Salt or Castell de Barxell (the latter also from Racó de Sant Bonaventura).

ROUTES WITH HISTORY
ROCK PAINTINGS OF LA SARGA: A WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Taking the Pont de les Set Llunes as a reference point once again, this time we head in the direction of Ibi to take a closer look at the history of Alcoy.
Along the Greenway you can reach La Sarga, past the Estepar recreational area, following the path that leads to the area around Mas de la Cova, from where you can follow the path that leads directly to the Cave Paintings of La Sarga. If you would like to take a guided tour of the Cave Paintings of La Sarga, you can find more information and book here.

EL PUIG

El Puig is another of those areas in the heart of nature that offers us a small part of the history of our ancestors. Going along the Vía Verde towards the Estepar recreational area (the same one we were talking about before), you can also climb the Puig, at the top of which you will find an archaeological site where you will discover an Iberian settlement, where excavations have been going on for more than a hundred years. It is a very interesting visit and, in addition, from time to time there is a dramatised visit organised by the Archaeological Museum of Alcoy.

As you can see, there is a wide variety of options for touring our natural parks that you will love. From Masía La Mota we encourage you to do these routes; as well as finding a few days of disconnection in our hotel, you will also be able to come into direct contact with nature and, perhaps, fall in love and return a thousand and one times to discover new paths and landscapes. However, we would like to remind you that we must be careful with the environment when we go hiking; we must keep our mountains clean and be respectful with the environment in order to be able to continue having such a special and wonderful environment.
